A fantastic day was had by all at the LSP 2008 skateboarding competition which was held at the Longridge Skatepark on Saturday 23rd of August. Competitors travelled from as far as Bolton, Accrington Blackpool and Chorley .

We were extremely happy to also see so many local skaters and spectators showing their support.

The youngest competitor to enter was 3 year old Miles Phillips from the Longridge area who definitely received the loudest cheers and support of the day.

We were glad to have the support of 1st Class Caterers who provided excellent food and refreshments for both skaters and spectators. In all we had 25 competitors fighting for cash prizes, skateboarding hardware, clothing skateboarding magazine subscriptions and trophies.

We would like to thank Longridge Town Council Mayor Hilda Marle for her full support, and for presenting all the prizes and trophies on the day and especially for generously donating a hand crafted wooden trophy, which was presented to the overall winner Ryan Walsh from Longridge. We were very pleased also to have the full support of the local Police who were present on the day but who decided not to enter the competition.

We were also very lucky to have no injuries or broken bones though there may be a few bruises or grazes. Lovely weather was the order of the day with the rain holding off for the whole comp. The only problem of the day being one van getting stuck on the grass. The LSP skatepark group would like to thank all the supporters, sponsors and skateboarders for ensuring the event was a huge success. Also, the LSP would like to especially thank the volunteers of the group who have tirelessly donated their free time to make it happen

We were also very pleased to see Jessica Hall again who was the only female competitor to be present in both last years and this year's event. It was also good to see the awesome graffiti boards up from the successful workshops which have been run recently at the youth club by local artist Sarah Hicks, which added an explosion of colour around the park. Many thanks also to local DJ's Sam Dickinson and ELECT-RICK for providing the skaters and spectators with some great tunes throughout the day. Visual coverage was kindly provided by Adam Hicks, Caroline Holden, R.H. Cowell and Peter Knight who caught some excellent photos and video of the impressive demonstration of skill and determination of the competitors
